After producing the first-of-its-kind video series behind MLS preseason last year, The SLICE Season 2 is finally here. The tone will be different as we attempt to authentically showcase the storylines of the 2017 Houston Dynamo squad, but I am confident the behind-the-scenes value will remain.
The SLICE Season 2 Episode 1
This five-part mini-documentary series takes viewers on a unique, behind-the-scenes journey during the Houston Dynamo 2016 preseason.
The idea to create this series developed over the off-season and became my pride and joy as I led the charge as the executive producer. Myself and one other videographer conceptualized, shot, edited and produced the project under tight deadlines, publishing one episode each week of preseason leading into the 2016 home opener.
I am extremely proud of this project. The athletes opened up to us throughout the filming process and created a great rapport, enabling them to further develop their media skills, and thus allowing the video team to better showcase their personalities and eventually pose the more sensitive questions. We gained their trust – and that took the storylines to a great new level.
In a collaboration with Kicks to the Pitch and the Houston Dynamo, I shot and produced a video series with a focus on the athletes’ cultural passions off the pitch.
This is the first of the series that features Houston Dynamo defender and U.S. Men’s National Team veteran DaMarcus Beasley talking music, old school hip hop and the beautiful game.
This is one of my favorite packages to date.
This was my first video that has gone viral. The Argentinian National Team trained at the Houston Dynamo training facility ahead of their friendly against Bolivia to be played on our home field, BBVA Compass Stadium. The Houston Dynamo U18s took advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with Argentina that week and I was able to capture a few special moments and interviews that were picked up by various outlets and social media accounts, receiving about millions of views worldwide:
- Web potential reach = 18 million worldwide
- Local Houston-area TV received >100 clips
- Estimated audience 1.288 million
- Felicity Value = $137,852 not including international coverage with outlets inclusive of ESPN, FOX Sports, FOX Sports Deportes, etc.
